Provenance
Senkoe began painting in the streets of Mexico because he was unable to find formalised art classes in his hometown. His practice is inspired by the use of textiles and handcrafted references in the imaginary, mystical and typical pre-Columbian cultures, which he combines with references from pop culture, graphic design and illustration.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For our exhibition, OUTSIDERS, Senkoe recreates the experience of interacting with a mural in the gallery and captures the essence of his street art with two figurative works of a jaguar and a deer with the artwork Mazatl. Drawing from brightly coloured Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures, called Alebrijes, he brings us a little piece of Mexico to Colaba for OUTSIDERS.
