Latheesh Lakshman

Latheesh Lakshman is an artist from Kerala whose work focuses on craft and its multifaceted forms. Noticing the century-old practice and traditions of the goldsmith community, his work is skewed because of a dichotomy between a local and global aesthetic that shapes his distinctive style. With a formal training in Fine Arts from the College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram and experience of 20 years in advertising, the Cannes award-winning creative continues to practice as a visual artist. His minimal illustrations, typographical dialogue and frequent use of patterns summon colloquial language and pop culture, making his works accessible to a large audience.

The artist’s works have been exhibited at Contextual Cosmologies, College of Fine Arts Gallery, Thiruvananthapuram, 2023; Festival For Contemporary Art & Culture, Kunsthafen Köln, Germany, 2022; and Lokame Tharavadu, Alappuzha and Ernakula, 2021; Kondotti Sufi Festival, Kondotti, Malappuram, 2019; Uru Art Harbour, Fort Kochi, 2018 among others. Latheesh has worked on multiple branding projects with institutions such as  Kochi-Muziris Biennale and Kerala Lalithakala Academi. He has also been the recipient of various awards such as Transform Dubai, 2018; Cannes Lion, 2011 and YCN London, 2007.
