As you enter this survey of Post Graffiti and Urban Contemporary Art, you wade into a five decade long evolution of a movement that extends the idea of the arts and the artist to the urban and the everyday. The 24 artists in the show are both primary actors and witnesses to this ecosystem that is blurring conventional boundaries of creative practice.
Embedded within the exhibition is a concentration of histories, anecdotes of process' and a commentary on the context that it occupies. Replete with an archive, a timeline of events and the voice of the artists, the show plays an active part in extending the legacy that it evokes. Gallery XXL is proud to start its journey with OUTSIDERS, a watershed moment where street artists, graffiti artists, storytellers, pedagogues, multimedia artists and other pluralities come together to illuminate the story of the urban art movement.
